Recycling

  • Reduce, re-use, recycle

  • Keep recyclables out of trash

  • Buy durable and reusable items rather than disposable items

  • Cardboard boxes can be used in many ways

  • Shoe boxes make great little keep-sake holders for items

  • Keep plastic margarine and dip containers for storing leftovers and portable food containers

  • Use cloth instead of paper towels when possible

  • Avoid use of Styrofoam products

Campus Energy Facts for Recycling:

Last year, UW-Madison campus discarded 9,849 tons of materials. We were able to recycle 2,358 tons of it (24% ). Recycled products include:

  • 379 tons glass/plastic/aluminum

  • 117 tons scrap metal

  • 1158 tons cardboard/newspaper

  • 537 tons mixed office paper

  • 34 tons books

  • 73 tons wooden pallets

Recycling of each ton of paper saves 17 trees & 7,000 gallons of water.
